Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive condition characterized by the gradual loss of kidney function over time. It is a significant public health issue worldwide, affecting millions of people and leading to increased morbidity and mortality. CKD is defined by the presence of kidney damage or a decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of less than 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 for three months or more, regardless of the underlying cause. The disease is categorized into five stages based on the severity of kidney damage and GFR levels. CKD is often asymptomatic in its early stages, making early detection and diagnosis challenging. Routine screening for at-risk populations, including those with diabetes and hypertension, is essential for early identification and management of CKD The primary risk factors for CKD include diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and a family history of kidney disease. Additionally, non-traditional factors such as inflammation, oxidative stress, and gut dysbiosis have been identified as significant contributors to the progression of CKD.
