Subject : Participation in survey "Prevalence and Treatment Patterns In Various Types Of Wounds Including Burns" (Protocol No. - SP/ACUTE/SURVEY-07-2024)
A wound is a break/disruption in the epithelial integrity of the tissues and can be caused by physical trauma or by a blunt force trauma or can be due to result of a disease process affecting the skin. Chronic wounds are complicated and are categorized as diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), vascular ulcers (venous and arterial ulcers) and pressure injuries. DFUs can potentially lead to mortality, hospitalization and disability.
A burn injury usually results from an energy transfer to the body. It can be caused by thermal, radiation, chemical, or electrical contact. Burns are classified as first-, second-, or third-degree, depending on depth and severity.
Wounds represent a significant health concern to both clinicians and patients, posing both a financial and psychological impact, and managing these patients represents a high cost in terms of both time and resources required.
There is limited data available on the epidemiology and management of various wounds in Indian patients. This multicentric survey is designed to understand more about the incidence, prevalence and overall management of various wounds in Indian scenario.
