Subject: Cross
sectional survey to assess disease perceptive and management
practices of chronic constipation in Indian physicians
Chronic constipation is a common complaint in any population.
Constipation is basically a
patient's perception variously described as subjective feeling of
inability to pass feces
smoothly or regularly, hard stool or obstruction to its passage,
unproductive urges or
feeling of incomplete evacuation. Risk factors for constipation
include older age, physical
inactivity, low caloric intake, low-fiber diet, low income, low
educational level, various
systemic and gastrointestinal (GI) disorders as well as medications.
Chronic
constipation (CC) is a common presenting problem among women and
older
individuals that causes worsening of patients' quality of life (QoL)
and consumes extensive
healthcare resources. In spite of the scarcity of data in India,
published literature indicates
CC to be a common health problem in India, with a population
prevalence ranging from
2.6% to 24.8%. Patients with chronic constipation also have
co-morbidities like Diabetes,
Cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney diseases etc.
It has
been evident that the health burden related to CC has been
comparable to other
prevalent serious conditions like hypertension and type 2 diabetes
mellitus. The vast
majority of patients with CC are treated with non-operative methods
that include lifestyle
modification, pharmacotherapy and biofeedback therapy. With the
publication of the
latest Rome IV criteria, investigative and therapeutic approaches
toward management of
CC from an Indian perspective are of growing interest to clinicians.
However,
there is limited data available on constipation disease perspective,
associated comorbidities and its management practices. Therefore,
this cross-sectional study is
designed to understand the disease perspective and management of
chronic constipation.
If you

standard data collection form (which we call DCF). A monitor will
assist you in verifying and
