Subject: To understand Correlation between Hyperuricemia and Metabolic Disorders in Indian Patients (CHEC-MED)
Clinical evidences suggest association between hyperuricemia and co-morbidities. The pathophysiological processes of uric acid-induced inflammation, endothelial cell dysfunction and oxidative stress might underlie this association. Research has recognized that uric acid exerts a strong antioxidant effect that can remove oxygen free radicals generated by oxidative stress and avoid oxidative damage. However, under hyperuricemic conditions, the beneficial effects of uric acid are replaced by deleterious effects which may be associated with metabolic syndrome, and may also be related to vascular diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and kidney disease.
Evidence is emerging for association of raised serum uric acid with metabolic syndrome and its individual components such as hypertension and hyperglycemia.
There is limited data available on physician’s current practice for the diagnosis and management of hyperuricemia associated with metabolic disorders. Therefore, this cross-sectional study is designed to understand the diagnosis and management of hyperuricemia associated with metabolic disorders from consultant physicians in India.
