Dear Dr. {{ $doctorName }},

Subject: A survey to understand HCP preferences for knowledge updation and the optimum patient education, awareness and support programs that can be developed (KU-PEAS study)

In India, medical practitioners primarily rely on traditional methods for knowledge updates such as medical conferences, CMEs (Continuing Medical Education), peer-reviewed journals, and interactions with pharmaceutical representatives. Digital platforms like webinars, medical apps, and online forums are gradually gaining traction, especially among younger doctors and urban practitioners. For patient education, the current approach often involves verbal counseling during consultations, supplemented occasionally by printed leaflets or visual aids. Awareness and support programs, typically driven by pharmaceutical companies or various bodies, are available but sporadic and limited to specific urban centers or major hospitals.

Despite the availability of multiple channels, there remains a disconnect in the accessibility, customization, and regularity of knowledge updates. Time constraints, lack of region-specific content, and limited digital literacy among certain segments of practitioners pose challenges. Patient education, too, is hindered by language barriers, low health literacy, and short consultation windows. Furthermore, awareness and support initiatives are not uniformly accessible across rural and semi-urban areas, limiting their impact. There’s also a lack of robust feedback mechanisms to gauge effectiveness and tailor programs accordingly.

Going forward, there is a strong need for more structured, scalable, and inclusive platforms for continuous medical learning tailored to Indian realities. Hybrid learning models integrating offline and digital formats can bridge the accessibility gap. For patient education, multilingual, easy-to- understand digital content supported by community health workers can enhance outreach.

Nationwide awareness and support programs, supported by public-private partnerships and leveraging mobile health technologies, can democratize access and drive better patient outcomes. Building sustainable frameworks with consistent feedback loops will be key to long-term success.
