Subject: : To participate in a cross-sectional survey to assess corticosteroid usage patterns in Indian Patients
Corticosteroids are synthesized by the adrenal cortex. These natural hormones, which are classified as mineralocorticoids or glucocorticoids, have varied effects throughout the body.
Mineralocorticoids regulate electrolyte and water balance through their effects on the transport of sodium and potassium ions. Glucocorticoids were originally designated as such because they help maintain a fairly stable level of glucose in the blood. Glucocorticoids also influence fat and protein metabolism, increase gastric secretion, and alter the connective tissue response to injury, among other effects.
Of particular interest to clinicians is the ability of glucocorticoids to inhibit inflammatory and immunologic responses. Synthetic corticosteroids are available in both oral and injectable dosage forms. They are used to control the inflammatory effects of many diseases, such as bronchial asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. They also are of value in treating conditions such as urticaria and rejection of transplanted organs, which may result from undesirable immune reactions.
The purpose of this survey is to understand the place of corticosteroids in the management of various non-endocrine disorders where corticosteroids are prescribed with special emphasis on methylprednisolone.
If you agree to participate, you will need to provide assessment response, on to the standard questionnaire form. A link will be provided for the same on your registered email address.
We trust you and we are partners in safe and effective drug therapy. In that spirit we hope you will consent to participate in this survey.
