Subject: To understand the side effect profiles of drug & treatment preference in the cancer pain management in real world practice
Around 14,61,427 patients are detected with cancer in India. Among them 3,36,712 patients suffer from moderate to severe cancer pain.
Currently for the management of moderate to severe cancer pain, Doctors refer to WHO pain ladder that acts as a guide to treat pain of different intensity. Different treatment options are available for management of mild, moderate and severe cancer pain. For the management of moderate to severe cancer pain, multiple options like Morphine, Fentanyl, Buprenorphine are available. Side effect profiles for each of these treatment regimens are different. Choice of the treatment differ from doctor to doctor depending on patient’s profile or side effect profile of drug.
Hence, it is crucial to understand the preferred doses, choice of treatments in different patient profiles that are being used more commonly among the oncologist for the treatment of cancer pain.
