Dear Dr. {{$doctorName}},

Subject: To understand the usage of NMP Capsules in Threatened Abortion/Recurrent Pregnancy Loss/ for Prevention of Preterm Birth/Luteal Phase Support in Infertility patients in real-life clinical practice

Spontaneous abortion occurs in about 15% to 20% of pregnancies. Threatened abortion occurs when a mother might be losing her baby at less than 20 weeks' gestation.

Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL) can be defined as three or more clinically recognized consecutive pregnancy losses prior to 20 weeks of gestation from last menstrual period. It affects 1-2% of women. The prevalence is 7.46% among Indian women.

Preterm birth (PTB), defined as birth occurring at less than 37 weeks of gestation, is the leading cause of perinatal mortality and morbidity in the world. Two thirds of all preterm births are spontaneous.

Luteal phase deficiency (LPD) has been described as a condition in which ovarian hormone production is not of a sufficient quantity or temporal duration. LPD has been associated with infertility. In assisted reproduction techniques (ART), progesterone levels are low, so the luteal phase is supported with progesterone to improve implantation and pregnancy rates.

Progesterone's physiological role is to prepare the uterus for the implantation of the embryo, enhance uterine quiescence and suppress uterine contractions. Progesterone supplementation has been used as a treatment for threatened/recurrent abortion to prevent spontaneous pregnancy loss. It has shown to have a key role in PTB prevention as well.

Medications that mimic the action of progesterone are known as progestogens. Natural Micronized Progesterone (NMP) is a natural and bioidentical progesterone.
