Dear Dr. {{$doctorName}},

Subject : A multicentre, retrospective, observational survey to analyse the role of topical NSAIDs in acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain over oral NSAIDs.

Pain is a major public health challenge globally. One in every five adults worldwide suffers from pain and one in every ten adults is diagnosed with chronic pain.

Despite its severity, pain is often ignored, under-reported or mismanaged. As per WHO, the worldwide prevalence of pain in the adult population is 20% (Indian J Palliat. Care. 2018 Jan-Mar; 24(1): 93–97).

In India, it is estimated that ~ 37% of middle aged and old age population were often encountered with pain. Pain prevalence increases with age is more common in older adults aged 75+. Generally, pain reduces the quality of life of patients (BMC Geriatrics volume 22, Article number: 939, 2022).

Studies have shown that pain severely affects almost all aspects of life i.e. to sleep, ability to exercise, perform household chores, walk, attend social affairs and maintain independent lifestyles and may lead to depression or anxiety.

In acute pain problems, the goal is primarily pain relief. In chronic pain problems, achieving the best outcome for the patient often involves a variable blend of pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches that addresses the multidimensional components of pain and suffering.

Common treatments for musculoskeletal pain include physical therapy, exercise, medications, and in some cases, surgery. Physical therapy focuses on improving flexibility, strength, and endurance, while exercise helps to rebuild muscles, strengthen bones, and improve posture. A wide range of medications is available to manage pain, with the selection of treatment tailored to the individual.

Long term use of oral NSAIDs to treat chronic pain may lead to multiple side effects. Topical NSAIDs offer better safety profile as compared to oral NSAIDs.

Thus this study aims to understand the HCPs perspective on preference or usage of topical NSAIDs in acute and chronic conditions.

If you agree to participate, you will need to provide responses to study questionnaire.

We trust you and we are partners in promoting safe and effective drug therapy. In that spirit we hope you will consent to participate in this survey. If you do, please fill the survey online.
